The Rock

Welcome to Newfoundland!
(You have to read that with a newfie accent...I didn't realize how strong the accent was until we were in a bar and the waitstaff were chatting a mile a minute in a language I didn't understand.)

This is the only newfie dog we saw in nfld.  We did chat with some local dog owners and apparently there are TONS of newfies in newfoundland, they just prefer the couch than the parks.  Can't blame them really.

This is Cape Spear - the eastern most point in Canada.

Gratuitous Canon Shot at Cape Spear.  This "cannon" is from WWII.  It is missing the bits that used to raise and lower it above the concrete block in front.
More canons (at Signal Hill).  Signal hill has a long history.  There have been military forts here and Marconi did the first transatlantic wireless signal from here, but now it is a tourist sight where people spend their weekends climbing the 800-odd steps to the top.
We really liked Nfld.  I'm not sure what it was about it that made it so cute.
Maybe it was the jelly bean houses...
The scenery...

The seafood ...yes we had seafood every. single. day.

(Petty Harbour seafood chowder - really good!)
It's quirky...they have standalone ATMs...you know for that time when you just NEED money but don't really need a place to spend it...

It was deserted...(George street during the day - though th/fri/sat nights it was hopping, live bands in every single bar.  Crazy!)
It's understated...

Tourist season starts in a month or two so everything was very quiet.  This was great except when it came to finding food on the south shore highway.  Thankfully a local restaurant invested in a big sign on the highway that said - turn left at the firehall and right...
Firehall:

 Restaurant:

The fog...
Maybe it was the music...

Either way I know that it is a neat place that we will try and go back to...assuming I can get out of this thing.
I don't know how I get myself into these situations!  Until next time...
